Among Taiwan’s six national parks, most of the ecologically protected areas of Yushan, Taroko and Shei-pa national parks are mountainous. Most of the island’s major hiking trails pass through ecologically protected areas and restricted mountainous areas. Therefore, visitors who intend to hike in these parks must obtain both mountain and park entry permits. However, it is the national park headquarters that are responsible for approving park entry permits, while National Police Administration units are responsible for approving mountain permits.
